RANGER

Built in 1823, the Ranger is typical of the American revenue cutters used for surveillance and coastguard duties during the first half of the 19th century. A large carronade that rotated a full 360° was installed in the center of the deck, permitting rapid fire from both sides of the hull with a single weapon.
